Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Webmie operates WebPanels for online panel owners as a service.

WebPanels are by invitation only. You need to have an invitation from online panel before you can participate.

When you receive invitation by email or on a web site click the invitation link and follow instructions how to add WebPanel extension to your browser.

Try to install again after restarting your browser and computer.

If the "enable add-on" notification bar does not show up after installation try to enable the add-on as follows:

  1. Open Tools(), then click Manage Add-ons.
  2. On the Toolbars and Extensions list, select WebPanel App and click Enable.
  3. Restart the browser and it will open your WebPanel page.
  4. If WebPanel is not listed, reinstall WebPanel App.

Ask help from your friends who are familiar with Windows and check that your computer system fulfill following requirements:

  • You have installed Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11.
  • You have installed .NET 2.5 or 3.5 (use Windows update to install it).

When you have added the extension to your browser just browse the internet as you normally would. The extension will collect the browsing history for the survey and you do not have to do anything.

The extension also has the following feature:

  • You can temporarily disable measurement by using your browser in the Private Browsing/Incognito mode.

The extension collects similar information as e.g. web sites and Google are usually collecting:

  • Time and Date of Pageview
  • Pageview URL and Title
  • Pageview referer
  • Movement between windows and tabs
  • General information about your machine like screen resolution and operating system

The browser extension doesn't collect credit card information, webmail contents or any other content on the pages. In private browsing mode the extension doesn't collect anything.

Browsing history is used to compute aggregate statistics of different groups' Internet use habits.

Examples of typical statistics:

  • How much are different websites used?
  • What is this week's most popular online video?
  • What do people do before and after they look at a weather forecast online?
  • What kind of videos Internet users are watching on web sites?
  • How much time on average is spent reading online newspapers?

No, WebPanel do not have your email.

No. The statistics are computed using a computer program and they will never be connected with your email address. Webmie will, however comply with local laws concerning giving stored data to public authority.
